Without a doubt, cake smash sessions are the messiest sessions I offer and that’s exactly how they should be.
Often called “cake smash” or “smash cake” sessions, these are joyful, energetic, and full of personality. As babies approach their first birthday, they’re entering an exciting (and sometimes unpredictable) stage. Some arrive curious and confident, others a bit shy or unsure and that’s all part of the magic.
The cake itself often becomes the great equalizer. It helps keep little ones engaged and anchored during the session. Some babies dive right in, others gently explore, and a few aren’t quite sure what to think at first. No two babies respond the same way, which is what makes each cake smash session so special. Every session is guided by your baby’s unique personality, resulting in images that feel authentic, playful, and full of life.
Cake smash sessions are typically scheduled around 11 months of age, allowing time for image delivery before your baby’s first birthday, perfect for prints, party decor, or announcement cards.
